she/her
When Jess became pregnant with her first child she fell in love with all things birth. Jess was in the midst of her first yoga training and loved discovering ways in which yoga could support her changing body, mind and spirt. After the birth of her first child, Jess experience the gap in care most people do and realized the importance of supporting individual though birth AND beyond. Jess loves helping others connect to their changing bodies as well as witnessing the connection students make with each other in class. Jess believes care rooted in community facilitates a deep healing for people after a big life transition.
Jess is a 200hr Hatha certified yoga instructor and holds her certification in Prenatal and Postpartum Yoga as well. Jess has been teaching a variety of classes over the last 10 years, but has spent the last eight years primarily instructing the prenatal and postpartum population. In addition to teaching yoga Jess is a practicing Postpartum Doula and Birth Educator.
Jess' Hatha training inspires her to incorporate connection to the breath, theming and yogic philosophy into the classes she teaches. Working with the prenatal and postpartum population has allowed Jess to be more cognizant of how people inhabit and engage in their bodies during times of big transition. In Jess' classes, she encourage students to shape their own practice based on their body’s needs, abilities and instincts. Jess is a true believer of the idea that “yoga meets you where you are at,” and therefore offers lots of modifications, the use of props and tangible cues so students can adapt their practice to meet whatever their day has in store for them.
Jess is committed to the idea that yoga and movement has the ability to spark exploration, transformation and liberation in ourselves. Jess's brings this idea forward in her teaching, inspiring individuals to pay attention to how subtle shifts in the body can create massive changes and ripple beyond ourselves. Jess creates a containment in her classes so that we can all feel safe to delve into these deeper parts of ourselves while feeling cared for in community.
